What this number is???

It's when someone sends a sms text message from a mobile to your landline, then this number rings back with the message. Try for yourself, send a sms text message from your mobile to your landline!!! And that's what this number is. Thank you everyone.

0198339100 is Telstra's Talking Text service

If you receive a call from this number it is someone trying to send you an SMS.
If you have SMS capable equipment, T-hub or SMS capable handset, it will be able to receive the message, otherwise it wil read the sms out to you using a computerised voice.

When you pick up the phone, say something to trigger the delivery otherwise it will start in about 5 seconds.
It will tell you how many SMS messages there are in the opening greeting then begin playing the first message.
After it has read out each message it will read out the senders phone number and the time/date it was sent.

During the messaage being read out you can press:
1 to replay the message
2 to reply to the message
5 to delete the message
6 to go to next message ( it will automatically delete the previous message )

Once all messages have been delivered you will be given the option to go into settings
In Setting you can:
Change the number of rings until it hangs up - you can set this just short of when an answering machine answers just in case you don't want the messages on your answering machine.
Set all deliveries to Talking Text - just in case you have an SMS capable phone but want the messages read out to you.
Change the time the messages stop delivering at night and begin delivering in the morning.
Set the service to deliver 24 hours

The service wil also do its best to translate SMS acronims like LOL, ROFL AAMOF :) :-( etc
Don't send emoji or emoticons.

If you are with Telstra, you can dial 019833999 to access pending messages or change the settings.

I got a call from 01 9833 9100 - so I didn't answer it. About ten seconds later my husband rang me from his mobile and said "I just rang you a minute ago, but the call didn't go through. Did you hear it ring at your end?" - I said I did hear it ring, but that a weird number came up so I didn't answer it.... how strange that hubby's mobile number woud come up as "01 9833 9100" - doesn't make sense!!!

Been getting calls from this number since monday. just after I hung up on a LINTON Group Telemarketer, being on the do no tcall list, I don't wish to receive phonecalls from them. Monday it was every hours from 11 am to 11 pm. Since tuesday I get calls every 8 hours. 6.39 am; 2.39 pm and 10.39 pm. Automated nuisance calls???????

after multiple calls from this number today I found this website. I havent heard of "talking text" before but the next time the number rang (and its ringing my desk phone at work) I answered it. I was told that I had 2 new messages, one of which was a "test" that I had sent from my mobile to my work number. Learnt something new....

I think Alan and Dain are trolls. I have seen The same explanation word for word on several forums. If you call Telstra and they have no idea what it is I think that is pretty self explanatory. It is a dodgy con.

I have had about 15 of these calls today and let them go thru to my answering machine and it sounds like a fax machine on the other end, as I have no fax I don't know what that are trying to send? Tried *69 got the number and tried to call it back to get them to stop but got a recorded message saying the number was incomplete, or incorrect???

Last night around 9.00pm we received our first call when answered stated that we had 5 Text messages. It commenced with "An Angel is watching over you", I promptly hung up. The calls continued every 5 - 10 minutes until we disconnected the landline. I have contacted Telstra via email and still awaiting a response. We do not have caller ID and yet we are able to see the number of the incoming call, strange. I am pretty disappointed as we had lost a family member on Wednesday night and of course was expecting phone calls from family members. They now have to call owe mobiles.

Had this number call me this morning, message was something about "joining us for vindaloo at the river". Doesn't sound like anyone I know??? Worrying that it is some type of scam where once you answer they have you?

Today, Sat 15th Oct, 2016 I've been getting this number trying to call me repeatedly since 9am on my home phone. However, the phone does not ring properly and I refuse to answer it. It is now calling me every 10 minutes or so. How do I stop this?

Just received a call from this number ... it is Telstra's talking text service where a text can be sent to a fixed line. Both the sender and receiver must be Telstra numbers. If it doesn't get through the first time, it will call you back again to attempt to deliver the message. Just listen and after a short delay an automated voice reads the message to you. You can delete the message, reply, etc. If you wait longer there's a menu option to turn off the service all together. It's not a scam, it is a real service ... google Telstra Talking Text for further info.

Looks like these lying scamming low lifes are back on the job. I rang Telstra. It is not one of their services. Not sure what happens if you press numbers, but I certainly would not follow any of their prompts.
Rang the 1300 795 995 report scam hot line, and the best that they can offer is to delete the messages and ignore the calls. Then get onto your service provider to put a block on this number.

If that's a joke it's a pretty silly one. I did try it and just got an "undelivered" message. :/
